Based on this interview by Mike Stark, Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor apparently would not join a Republican filibuster of health care reform legislation, barring something “completely objectionable.”
STARK: Is there any chance you would join with the Republicans to stop health care, say if there was a public option in the Senate version bill?
PRYOR: Well, there are so many variables on this. I don’t want to say no, there’s no chance, because something could be added that could just be completely objectionable. But I don’t think you’ll see…
STARK: It would be a crazy circumstance if you would.
PRYOR: Yeah, I don’t think you’ll see me or any other Democrats do that
There’s plenty of wiggle room in those words, but we just haven’t heard a lot from Pryor throughout this debate. He’s not on the relevant committees, and he hasn’t weighed in a whole lot. Back in June he said he could support a public option if it were designed “in a way that increases… competition.” But he is not part of any public option whip counts.
But the key question is the one Stark asked. And Pryor said that he couldn’t see him or anyone in the caucus joining a filibuster. Senate leaders said similar things today. Despite nameless Administration staffers’ comments, nobody in the Democratic caucus has announced they would join a filibuster, meaning that the leadership should feel free to add in elements supported by a majority of the Senate. And if there are members who would filibuster a bill, they ought to take the responsibility and say it publicly.

even the bible-thumping quasi-republican won’t filibuster? so what’s lieberman’s excuse? i know. he’s an unapologetic asshole.
Is Sen. Mary Landrieu a member of the D caucus? If yes, Why? Countdown says this Senator wants to join the Republican Filibuster. Bring it on!
Amy Klobuchar was just on Countdown saying the same thing…”oh, no, no Democrat is even considering joining a filibuster…”
Sigh…she and I are clearly not occupying the same universe. Am I crazy or is she being naive?
Oh, and Rachel is ripping Tim Phillips (Americans for Prosperity) on her show. She’s just not letting him get away with shit.

Just say Rachel…..OMG…..I’m still salivating. Why, why, why don’t more newsfolk have the stones she’s got? America would be a better place, damnit!
he said “No Democrat”.
Can you say “Joe Lieberman”?
I don’t think we can expect much candor from the Senate, where anonymous holds are par for the course. They don’t think they have to explain anything.
Could be a move to give the whole Snowe job some cover.
Lieberman = Lieberman for Lieberman. Not a Democrat.
Slightly OT: I just got another annoying e-mail from one of the many-headed Dem. party hydra. [In this case, "Organize for America."]
Their headline, that “it’s time to deliver” so infuriated me that I wrote the following:
Well, looky here: my e-mail “reply” was bounced back. I’m off to figure out how to get through their “open communication.”
I have great faith that Lieberman will do the right thing. Excuse me, but I have a mylar balloon flight to catch to the Land of the Plum Fairies.
Mike Stark is doing excellent work!
Idle Observation:
Has Congress EVER in its history EVER had so many people watching it SO closely, and getting in their faces, on their phones, day after day?
And yet, they STILL don’t or won’t “what masacci said in #6″.
SO, lemme ask this Q. After Senate finalizes a bill, and House finalizes a bill.
We know who the big dogs from Senate are gonna be, but who in Da House will be part of final merger?
Thanks in advance for a reply on that one . . . course, my follow up is, Will The House Be Of Equal Sitting during this final stage?
And I should add.. Old gang of fourteen member Mark Pryor gave fellow gang of fourteen member Landreiu quite a bit of campaign money last year.
Maybe you should change your handle to TheLeftNutcracker.
Whenever OFA sends it’s from their “Info” box, and it’s built to specifically reject messages.
What I do is use the exact same subject heading that OFA sends, choose the subject line “I have a policy comment” from the subject drop down, and put the OFA subject line in my message as a header at

She was forking brilliant. Wouldn’t let him talk over her, wouldn’t let his BS pass, and the wrap-up where she said
“well, since this has become a discussion of you and me personally, I feel that you and your ilk are parasites getting fat off the fears of Americans”. And then he had the nerve to pout at how mean and disappointing that was.
Dayam. Girl’s been eating some super-charged chicken soup while nursing her cold!
She’s my hero.

Political vote trap cameras. Great thinking Jane!
“Everybody wants free health care.” says Sen. Mary Landrieu. But she is not saying it in a good way. She is giving all “Mary’s” a bad name.
But I think free health care for everybody is a good idea.
Yup, just made that little journey.
I particularly liked the line @ whitehouse.gov that the Obama administration was “open and welcoming to citizens’ comments.”
Yeah, right.
That was my point. Lieberman is not a Democrat, but he is with the Dem caucus and must be counted toward the 60 votes everyone keep saying we need.
Lieberman would side with the Republicans in heartbeat.
I loved the nervous ha ha when Mike said ‘That’s why we have a responsive government, because we have elections every two to six years.”
Yanno? I don’t understand why Dems are so reluctant to vote for the strongest public option possible — i.e. Medicare opt in for any citizen who wants it.
Because if that passes, there are going to be Democratic majorities for the next couple of generations.
It might kill the health insurance cartel, but there will be plenty of other corporations to shake down for “campaign contributions.” And the Dems will be in just the right place to collect.
Edit: Plus they’ll have the added benefit of being able to threaten the courtiers with extinction if they forget who really runs things.
Just caught that clip on the re-run of Countdown. Could NOT believe my ears. Selfish, self-serving byotch does not begin to describe…
Who on earth has been marketing a Public Option as Free Healthcare?!! Again, she and I are clearly not occupying the same reality. It’s not about “free” for god’s sake…it’s about AFFORDABLE, and about getting actual HEALTHCARE for my money. Why is that so hard to understand?!!
FWDiva
PS,
Kudos to the guy behind Grassley at his press conference today: the one holding the “Single Payer Now” sign right in the camera frame. Priceless.

my reaction exactly. Everybody wants free health care — yeah, like the stuff you get, Miss Public Servant.
Yeppers, sign me up for the super duper Rachel Maddow appreciation society. I was already a fan, now I will endeavor to become an disciple.
The old mantra was, “talking truth to power,” but I see now the far more pointed endeavor of, “calling bullshit on the greasy little parasites that feed off the public teat on behalf of their evil overlords.” It seems to be much more fulfilling. I think the girl spontaneously jettisoned H1N1 on the strength of her vehemence!
Probably the committee chairs – Waxman, Miller and Rangel (although they’ll probably tell Rangel to take a walk – maybe Dingell will replace)
You are so right on… I can’t wait till next year when these bums get what they deserve……hopefully !!!
Yet more evidence that White House backroom deals are the limiting factor here.
That’s not clear: AHIP was on board because of a White House backroom deal, and now they’re attacking because it looks like the deal’s off (even the sweetheart Baucus bill doesn’t give them everything they were promised). Fortunately, their attack (the Price Waterhouse “study”) was really ineffective.
Have you checked out Dylan Ratigan lately? He may not make you salivate, but he’s been going after these monopolists like a pit bull lately. Friggin’ brutal! Love it.
Wow, way to hit it, MauiMadre!
Yes! This is a golden moment to drive a stake thru the heart of the Repubs and the Dems seem utterly impotent. It’s maddening.
It would also solve the problem of not wanting the insurance cartel money to go to Republicans. They won’t have enough money to make a difference. Save medicare for the elderly and solve the problems of the uninsured in one fell swoop. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Since it’s already a big enough program to hold its own and keep costs down, it can be completely optional so the 9/12 crowd can stay with their private coverage without hurting the rest of us.
Ratigan is especially dangerous to the corporatists, I think, because he is no raving liberal, he’s one of them. He’s a conservative capitalist through and through who was slapped upside the head and made violently ill by the crap the plutocracy has been up to and what it has done to our economy and our country and what it will continue to do if not stopped.
I hope the Democrats do the right thing.
even the bible-thumping quasi-republican won’t filibuster? so what’s lieberman’s excuse? i know. he’s an unapologetic asshole.
PRYOR:” Yeah, I don’t think you’ll see me or any other Democrats do that” That’s all I ask.
