I’m watching Michele Bachmann address a crowd of a couple thousand on the Capitol steps. There’s a big stack of papers, I assume to stand in for the House health care bill, on the dais. Jon Voight is up there, along with some guy in a doctor’s outfit (the Village People of freedom). Bachmann’s speech has the tenor and internal coherency of Sarah Palin’s resignation speech. She just mentioned “the next 233 generations,” roughly 5,000 years.

Addressing the substance is kind of nonsensical. There’s now a chant of “kill the bill” going on. It’s fun how quickly these protesters take to the word “kill” in any chant.

She’s actually bringing Jon Voight on now to speak. I’m out.

…Good Lord, he’s bringing on John Ratzenberger. He just called the Democrats “the philosophical descendants of Wavy Gravy.”

Meanwhile, on planet Earth, John Garamendi was just sworn in on the floor of the House of Representatives, adding one more vote to health care reform.

…Voight just brought up ACORN, czars, Rev. Wright and “dithering” in Afghanistan within 2 minutes.

…I’m going to estimate the crowd at 400,000,000,000,000 people. Conservative estimate.

…Oh my, right-wing talker Mark Levin shows up and the American flag falls down.

…Levin sums up the entire event: “I want to quote Ronald Reagan.” Big roar. Then he quotes the line that Reagan used in opposition to MEDICARE. That’s what Republicans in the House have spent so long in this debate DEFENDING. Hilarious.

…Here’s a fun picture from the protest:

That says “National Socialist Health Care, Dachau, Germany, 1945.”

…A bit of news there. Eric Cantor basically guarantees that no Republican will vote for the bill. We knew that already, but there was a chance that someone like Joseph Cao (R-LA) from the New Orleans area would have joined on.

…There was a pro-reform protest today, too. Nine supporters of universal health care briefly occupied Joe Lieberman’s Washington office.

…Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council just called the health care bill “A bailout for the abortion industry.” Now that’s a clever connection.

…And now, Joe Wilson takes to the podium. He literally cannot give his speech because of screams in the crowd. He talks up the “good alternative” that the CBO trashed today.
