Here it is. There will be 20 minutes of debate on the Stupak Amendment, and then, I assume, a vote. I’ll be updating.
…I just want to mention that Kathy Dahlkemper last night said that the exchanges should not offer abortion coverage because SCHIP doesn’t.
Yeah, that’s because it covers children.
Stupak says that companies could offer supplemental abortion coverage. Health insurance companies can offer policies in the exchange that cover abortion, they just can’t give that policy to people seeking affordability credits.
Diana DeGette is getting after it: “This would be the greatest restriction on the right to choose in all of our careers.”
DeGette takes down the supplemental insurance idea: “This is offensive to women… should people be subject to supplemental insurance for cancer treatment just in case they get cancer?” She gets applause at the end of her statement.
Joe Pitts, a Republican, is joining Stupak in controlling that side of the debate. He’s speaking now. “Every dollar in the public option is a federal dollar.” Bullshit. The public option is self-sustaining and paid for by premiums. This is radical rhetoric to say such a thing. Because women may drive to an abortion clinic on roads paid for by public highway funds, is that too illegal under the Stupak/Pitts logic?
Rosa DeLauro is speaking against the amendment.
Kathy Dahlkemper is up. She’s voting for the amendment. “Our amendment does not change current law regarding abortion.” It just keeps it as a practice for the wealthy, that’s all.
Lois Capps is speaking against the amendment. She created the language in the underlying bill that was the compromise. Says the amendment “restricts a women’s access to a legal medical procedure.” This would be the only language in the entire legislation that restricts a medical procedure and rations care.
Mike Pence: “I rise in support of this amendment but it will not change my opposition to the Pelosi health care bill.” Thanks, Bart Stupak!
Nita Lowey: “This is a disappointing distraction to the bill before us [...] This amendment threatens the right and health of women to access a legal procedure paid for by their own premium funds.”
Cathy McMorris Rodgers is up. The Stupak anti-choice side is using women to make his points.
Brad Ellsworth, who was attempting the compromise, is speaking in favor of the amendment. His yes vote makes stopping this amendment tougher. “If this amendment passes today, I will support this bill.”
Barbara Lee: “This amendment takes us one step back to those dark days of back-alley abortions… this puts the religious views back into our politics. This is outrageous.”
Paul Ryan: He’s got his prop bill with him. Another yes on the amendment, no on the bill.
Jerry Nadler: “This amendment adds a new discriminatory measure against women…”
A quick note that this country has killed hundreds of thousands of people abroad, tortured, kidnapped people off the streets, etc., etc., and my federal funds paid that, and there’s no amendment to ensure no public funding of war or torture or rendition.
Michele Bachmann: “It all begins with life.”
Mike Quigley: “This amendment disrupts… equality.”
Jeff Fortenberry: slobbering all over Stupak. “Women deserve better.” How dare he.
Louise Slaughter, who cowardly took off in the Rules Committee when this amendment was allowed onto the floor: “30 or 40 years of our life is being cancelled out with this amendment.”
Jan Schakowsky: “This amendment goes way beyond current law. No woman plans an unplanned pregnancy. This will result in millions of women losing the coverage they already have.”
Dan Lipinski, another Dem voting for the Stupak Amendment and against women’s reproductive rights.
Chris Smith, a raging anti-choicer, quoting outrageous, untrue statistics on the House floor.
Here’s Marcy Kaptur, Michael Moore’s favorite Congresswoman, friend to labor everywhere, rising in support of the Stupak Amendment. Will Michael Moore cut Marcy Kaptur out of the DVD release of his movie after this attack on women’s reproductive choice?
…Diana DeGette is closing out the remarks. I believe we will have a vote right after this. “It is the intention of our opponent to stop coverage of a legal medical procedure on private plans and public plans on the exchange.”
Here comes a roll call…jittery…
Wait, so the roll call’s postponed after all that? I guess they’re holding it until the end of debate. We’ll have debate now on the substitute Republican amendment. Keep making those calls against the Stupak amendment! Per Chris and Natasha at Open Left:

UPDATE: While we wait for the vote, there’s this news: John Shadegg (R) is going to vote present because he thinks Pelosi can’t get the bill without the amendment. But Stupak HIMSELF has said that the underlying bill will pass regardless of what happens on the amendment.
Believe it or not, saving women’s rights depends on John frickin’ Shadegg getting enough idiot Republicans to join him.

Nadler on deck
EPU’d from below thread:
Captain Crazy!!
Is she wearing a lei?
That’s it, somebody suggested it earlier today. We’d better start drafting federal legislation blocking federal funding of erectile dysfunction drugs except to save the life of a patient during surgery.
Oh, and not a single bit of American broadcast bandwidth for its advertising.
Seriously, I’ve had it. This is war.
Quigley (D – IL) —> nice job.
Anyone notice how Bachmann looks directly into the C-Span camera? What a showboat asshole.
Does this amendment have any chance of passing, or was it allowed into the debate to let certain assholes vent and/or get some cover for themselves?
Epu’d from the last debate thread. Confused? Who, me?
Jack Kennedy never thanked the “Catholic Bishops” for supporting legislation, did he?
Did Michelle just get back from Hawaii?
Did you miss it?
The Great Orange Boehner demanded guarantees again; I’m assuming you did a double shot of Jaegermeister per our drinking game agreement. :)
Fortenberry has Stupak hair
It’s interesting that DeGette is the point person for pro-choice. Colorado is not one of the more pro-choice states. They have a draconian parental notification law. I used to work in a pediatric free clinic there and I saw this law ruin about one girl’s life per week.
I don’t have C-Span, anything you can do to update will be very much appreciated.
If republicans aren’t going to vote for the bill, why include “their” amendment? The only thing it changes is that democrats are, once again, compromising with themselves??
True, isn’t it…
They would prohibit hard-ons other than the involuntary…
Of course, nearly half (or more) of Congress would have to resign their seats.
No Federally funded woodies! That’s the ticket.
I posted this elsewhere, but I wanted to put it here as well.
http://people-press.org/commentary/?analysisid=88
Every single abortion post blames young women for not understanding blah blah. Not true.
Also the conservative dream world as it exists in mexico. women in prison for abortion.
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200910u/mexico-abortion
Yeah. I’m having difficulty with creating a graphic of Bart Stupak’s district covered in coat hangers because of that last double-shot.
Somebody give Boehner the next double-shot and tell him to STFU and drink.
You can pick it up here:

C-Span
okay, does Schakowsky redeem herself her after saying it’s a great day for women?
Parliamentary process makes my head hurt.
Not that it would likely hurt less watching this particular crap debate.
Schakowsky back on board?
I know Jane’s head was exploding earlier.
that *was* some pretty fucking impressive hair, wasn’t it?
Did the guy under the hair ever get around to speaking? (I couldn’t take my eyes off the hair)
C-span.org video feed having hiccups here, anyone else?
If any MPs are watchin’ this they’ve got to be laughin’ their asses off.
Oh jeebus, Christopher Smith is reciting the worst sort of fearmongering trash right now.
Awful.
Chris Smith is one classy dude, if by classy, you mean piece of shit.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I thot of that this afternoon, but didn’t have the guts to propose it. Thanks. heh.
Yeah, open it in a stand alone Real Player if ya have it. I haven’t had a disconnect in over an hour.
Mike Pence is a fucking asshole.
Now. I really don’t have a problem with fed $$ not being used for abortions – if Congress votes for that. And I don’t really care if it is. Don’t give a shit one way or another. It can probably be better used for something else, I’d imagine.
But i don’t see how that enters into the picture with the exchanges. Somebody… the exchanges don’t get fed $$ do they?
try my link @18; I think there’s more horsepower on those MSNBC servers. Just an opinion, and that’s where I’m watching.
Chris Smith is a loudmouth moron.
Kaptur, you are dead to me
SoDrag, no shootings in Orlando today. So I can’t complain.
Abortion is not health care, is their thing.
Think about that.
Kaptur’s on the to-go list.
Booo on Kaptur
Marcy Kaptur has just committed harikiri on CSPAN.
She’s toast.
Go Diana! GO GO GO!
Heh NO!
Thanks to you and Kelly. I am also without broadband. The boonies are fun only when you don’t need information.
Pelosi chooses not to speak on the floor but merely “revise and extend” her unsaid remarks. In other words, “I may not support this but I won’t do anything to discourage anyone else from doing so.”
And now we have the roll call.
Stupak defeated on voice! Yeas and Nays….
Mike Pence is a fucking asshole.
With personal knowledge herein, I agree.
I beat his ass in court while I was still in law school.
(what the fuck, statute of lim’s has long passed)
This amendment is currently whipped to pass. We’ll soon see.
Thank goodness no roll call vote.
Thanks, SD & Kelly. The #18 link is now working for me much better than the C-SPAN site.
And so to a vote…
I did think she was smarter than this.
Postponed? WTF does that mean?
Next is the GOP Substitute Amendment
Jan Schakowsky: “. . . No woman plans an unplanned pregnancy.”
Um…. hard to argue with that, I s’pose.
This debate is less than classic, isn’t it?
Kaptur?!#$&%!
I just happily moved into her district. Short honeymoon. Dang!
Toss her in the, oh whatever pile that’s handy…. DANG!
Nays had it on voice vote, Stupid asked for recorded vote, Ayes had it for a recorded vote, then the chair said that action would be postponed.
What does that mean?
Now debate to begin on the GOP substitute without a YAY/NAY vote on Stupid?
Oh gawd, Behner’s substitute. I.m sure that will go over just peachy.
Fuck that.
Boner looks surprisingly sober.
I bet that he hasn’t been sober this late into a Saturday night for a loooong time….
Yay to JayT!
Though not a surprise: “Firepup wins over Pence.” Heh.
“Yeah, that’s because it covers children.”
Uh, actually it covers adults as well. Parents of eligible children and pregnant women qualify for SCHIP coverage.
Stupak has stated that he and many others will vote against the bill if his amendment does not pass. Are the people on this site willing to see this bill go down to defeat over abortion? Despite all the tough talk, I highly doubt it.
“If republicans aren’t going to vote for the bill, why include “their” amendment?’
Uh, the last time I checked, Bart Stupak had a D behind his name.
Since you people seem to be so dead set against this bill passing with the Stupak amendment, does that mean you will supporting the Lieberman filibuster in the Senate?
He doesn’t even care he’s lying.
Good.
They’ll hold the recorded vote on the amendment later, after debate ends on the substitute.
How did Boehner get this move before the roll?
pailin? just sayin’ seems ta think i heard a heap of plannin’ associated with same oncet on the way back to outback….
Bart Stupak is political history.
from dday uptop
You people can take solace in the fact that this bill will have a very hard time passing in the Senate.
he thinks it’s Monday.
I think “debate” would be the last term I’d use to describe this dog-and-pony show, apologies to dog-and-pony shows.
who was that dickwad with the baby this afternoon? maddie. who loves liberty. isn’t there a House rule against that shit or something? or do they just trust members not to be such fucking assholes?
You are kidding, correct? Concern noted.
So what do have now? 20 minutes of debate on Boehner, then a vote on Boehner, and then back to the recorded vote on Stupak?
LOL
mebbe he thot it was his civics grade. d’s passing in some skools.
The “you people” thing. Dead giveaway.
Gettin unruly now, asked by the Chair to respect the speaker in the House well.
Schakowsky said that she would oppose the final bill if the Stupak misogynist amendment is still in it after the Conference; we need to mobilize the big enough Pro-Choice block to follow her.
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/66797-schakowsky-were-fighting-off-stupak-amendment
After trying to watch this shit here and there throughout the day, I have concluded that it is a wonder there is any country left at all. What a bunch of useless jackasses they are. It is really pitiful and, no, the Dems are not much better. The extreme level of bleating ignorance and dullard jingoism is simply stupefying.
“You people”? How quaint.
seriously. well, I’m going to Publix for some….. I dunno yet. But I’m goin’. The final vote on the bill isn’t until at least 9-9:30, right?
Bart Stupak is political history.
heh. Would you mind stopping by from time to time as the night goes along – just to repeat that?
I enjoy reading it.
LOL
Look, this bill was fine until a conserva-Dem got a wild hare and decided at the last bloody minute to stick an anti-abortion amendment into the mix.
WE aren’t the problem. Stupak is going against everybody else, along with his minority — and minority they are because of the vote you just saw.
30 minutes for the GOP side, 10 minutes each for each Chair of the three relevant committees. So, an hour of “debate” about 90 minutes to two hours.
Then votes on amendments.
Who the hell are you to be referring to this group as “you people”? ~~~EDITED IN MODERATION~~~
They’re shoveling it all together for some kind of “High Noon” moment; is that the right way to read this?
After all the yammer, some rapid fire votes?
Primarying the Blue Dogs was the thing to do yesterday, and primarying the Blue Dogs will be the thing to do tomorrow. Stupak just moved himself to the top of the queue, that’s all.
Stupak and Kaptur.
hahaha
Goddamn database will only allow one LOL per commenter. Sheesh
You askin’ me? Look, man, if Lieberman’s doin’ it, it sucks, OK? So, no, I ain’t supportin’ Liberman’s filibuster if he ever finds two balls to put together to do it.
Is there anyone here right now from Michigan who can tell us if this guy has always been a religious whacko? Or did he just find himself once he got to C Street?
ONE warning only – name-calling is not the way to go.
Stick to the issue(s), please.
welcome to the official FDL hard-ass club.
That would torpedo the entire bill. Do you really want to do that?
LOL. who did I call an asswipe today? was it Michael Steele? who is that clown?
Order of votes after the “debate” on GOP substitute:
Stupak amendment
GOP substitute
House bill
Once they get around to voting they’ll take at least twice the stated voting time. Makes ya wanna throw something at the screen.
Come on, assholes. While we’re young.
Thanks! I thought that might be it.
Pelosi needs to seriously consider stripping Stupak of all his Committee memberships for this prank that threatens an entire major piece of legislation.
Committee on Energy and CommerceSubcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection
Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet
Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation (Chairman)
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah, “you people” as in the people, every single one of them on this site, up in arms over the Stupak amendment.
Good to see at least one person can’t answer a simple question without being a total asshole.
Hoping the DFHs have gone out to our Saturday night orgies, slipped away from our abortion parlours, or simply nodded off from our next heroin hit.
Fewer people paying attention, they hope.
JohnEmerson — I sure hope you are planning to move to Stupak’s district. Really. It’s going to be a lot fucking harder than you think to primary that man. I can only think of one guy who might want his job, but I don’t know if he’s not just like Stupak on abortion.
Twain — Stupak is usually a pretty solid Dem. Unfortunately, this one issue has been his Waterloo. He is going to take a raft of shit from here on forward, as long as he’s rep.
shhhhhhhhhhhhh……. aw shucks. it wuz almost cute. dim but w/ l’essence of je ne sais squat.
guess I have time to get a cart at Publix and do some serious shoppin’.
Stupak is a Vatican mole.
geez – Saturday night and here I am again -watching C-Span.
I’m such a nerd.
It’s not like Pelosi and Hoyer won’t find a way to bring it back to the floor next week. How can progressives vote for this bill with Stupid in it?
Down with Stupak.
je ne sais SQUAT!
I love you, and I don’t even know you.
Mwah!
YES. Because it’s bad enough now.
Thanks Teddy.
All on the Boehner substitute? Or do you mean on the main bill? Thought I heard 10/10 on the substitute, maybe I got that wrong.
Say that with pride.
Well, I DID skip my orgy, dammit.
People are asking Michael Moore on Twitter if he’ll primary Stupid next year.
We need a petition with thousands of names to demand that the Blue Dogs, New Democrats and just all-round slime have their committees taken away. There must be consequences for these action in both Houses.
With luck, they’ll fall asleep and be caught on camera snoring with their mouths hanging open.
Hahahahahahahahahah, I love the erudition of the debate here. I guess my comments don’t have the Echo-Chamber Seal of Approval.
There is not a single person here who would sacrifice passage of this bill over the Stupak Amendment, and you know. All this tough talk is a bunch of faux-outrage and moral preening. Seems the people here love as much government as they can get until they don’t.
Planned parenthood says on it’s website that without insurance an abortion costs about $350 to $900. How does that compare with the prenatal care, delivering a baby, and the cost of healthcare for the child after that?
If abortion opponents want pregnant women to chose life, shouldn’t they consider how the lack of affordable medical care could influence that decision?
Unfortunately, he’s been very, very effective on committee work.
This is the most horrible, awful part of this situation, his one issue Achille’s heel, one we can’t ignore.
So what just happened? The voice vote failed, and then the roll-call vote was postponed?
perfect’s not the enemy of the good, doncha know? The President wants a bill, doncha know? and….. and…..
I dunno, Ted.
Personally, I favor taking their seats away from them.
Vote them out, and vote in people who are more to the left.
Remember: Stupak = C Street.
Pence just said he rises in support of the Republican Revolution.
I favor the defeat of this bill with Stupid in it.
So there’s one.
is Stuprick from Flint?
Do you want to see it pass while sacrificing women’s bodies? Are women’s fundamental reproductive rights that cheap?
Sooo, the Rethug substitute is essentially the introduction of the suicide centers a la Soylent Green, complete with High Definition vids of Mother Earth as she used to be.
The troll speaks.
And having spoke, it will move on, I hope.
smack him down jay!!!
please just make sure no kitties in the vicinity when you starts stompin’ around.
hey. u have catturday yestidie? i been grumpin’ around, and our lil’ tigers are trying ta’ help. what would we do without em?! sigh.
Hope all’s well with you guys.
Hey, at least I got the Gators game on da rad-io.
I don’t know, masanf, but I’d guess most of these people have opposed restricting access to abortions for a long time.
Smells like troll in here.
Ditto – if women’s rights aren’t equal, there are no rights in the bill.
Solidarity.
Hey, you got a point there. Of course, if you were to wear a hat, you could cover it up.
I will stand by my original statement about you whether mods think it is polite or not. You earned every bit of it.
Mike Pence, the idiot who said the Baghdad market was just as safe as any summer market in Indiana. He wants to be President.
Caturday’s on Sunday. I post it sometime after 10am, dependent totally on how fast I get my ass in gear. We be fine, thanks fer askin’.
Wrong. Respectfully.
For me if they’re not pro-choice, they are gone.
I will join that motion with you and Teddy.
Who is this dick with the grey tie?
He thinks stupid is a good qualification for President?
Dimmer than I thought.
How long must the U.S. suffer these fools?
Primary Stupak? Yeah, because pro-choice liberals probably have a real shot in his district. What are you going to do next? Put up a liberal Democrat against Blanche Lincoln in a state that voted against Obama by 20 points. That would make about as much sense as putting up a primary challenger against Ben Nelson in that liberal bastion Nebraska or a primary challenger Kent Conrad in a state that hasn’t voted for a Democrat since Jesus was a baby.
All a primary challenge would do is give the seat to the Republican Party.
And people think it is the Republicans who have a “civil war” problem? Wrong party.
gator fans are obnoxious. who they playing? Vandy or somebody like that? I can’t wait until the day we learn that Jesus H. Tebow is juiced.
How much do these guys spend on cosmetics and stylists?
Mike Pence doesn’t need any help fro me to look stoopid.
Talking about protecting veterans.
And who funds the VA, fucknut?
Perfect is the bill without Hyde Amendament. Misogynist public option is not “Good” in any sense of the word.
good hair, though.
I’ve made my views clear to my rep (same as yours). And to Mr Preznit O.
We lose on this, it’s time to start our own party. Bet if it’s called progressive-labor we could get a good chunk of the voters before 2012.
I just tried several and their voicemail boxes are full. Good news, I hope!
I think that we’ve got a medal for that somewhere around here….
SKIDMARKS ON HISTORY! wow Thad, Rushian
OFA is telling their volunteer callers to remain silent on the Stupak amendment when calling reps.
Unbelievable.
SKIDMARKS ON HISTORY! Dems party of past! OMG, McCotter is such an ass!
omfg it’s that lazy sack of shit Thad McCotter.
Couldn’t be bothered to attend his Banking & Financial Services committee for two entire years — right up until the market tanked.
Asshole.
Vandy. I’ve never been to a game. I imagine we all think other school’s or team’s fans are obnoxious.
how long has there been a “Republican Plan”?
*checking watch*
Nice combover there, Baldy.
That photo of Stupidk up top looks like he’s a cheesy used-car salesman. or maybe like the insurance person I was hearing about on the train Thursday: didn’t have a copy of the policy, didn’t read it when it showed up, and didn’t have a clue about ‘uninhabitable’ vs ‘uninhabited’.
Consider the source…
McCotter is so 16th century.
Jinks!
I’ll have Rayne’s double Jaeger please….
Toast.
No we can’t ignore it. Effective you say? Maybe. But, the one time he takes the spotlight to truly assert himself its over the issue of legal rights for women. Unforgivable. You can’t take attempt to take down public health legislation for your own party as he is doing. Quite surprising that Mr. Smith is emerging but for the other side.
Looks to me you took a wrong turn on the tubes, my friend. Suggest you go back to the intersection and take a right.
No shit? I haven’t been in my email for a while; is that where it came?
“empower” … “wellness” … classic big-biz apologist.
That sounds almost exactly like the DNC’s handling of No-on-1 in Maine.
OFA is now toast, too.
I will say that many things have become clear in the last two weeks. We have a LOT of freaking work to do yet, a lifetime of work.
SKIDMARKS ON HISTORY! wow Thad, Rushian
I’m thinking that Daniel Webster probably never used that phrase….
It sure hit most of the squares in ‘troll bingo’.
He called the Democratic bill a “skidmark.” I guess he’d know.
true. least mine – what I have – isn’t gray, though. Or white, I guess his is. that counts for somethin’ don’t it?
Oh, this asshole McCotter. I remember this mf from hearings earlier this year. Grrrrrrr
Atrios is a genius. From Eschaton:
Stupak (n) – The sepsis commonly experienced after unsafe back alley abortions
oh my
Welcome to my world.
Fancies himself a modern day Medici.
I got off their mailing list, somewhere along the line. Probably just as well: something like that would make me return it with as much prejudice as I can fit through the bandwidth.
I’m a Yankees fan and I know we’re certainly not obnoxious. Especially when they win the World Series. they did, didja hear? 27th time.
noticing applause for some D speakers – none for any R speaker.
still, though – what might be the sound of a blue-dog clapping? (just in case, ya know)
Less obnoxious when they lose a few, though.
Hey, I just watched Hannibal a few nights ago.
So I may have a certain bias.
so stupak is gonna become a word? sorta like santorum ?
Is that anything like one hand clapping?
Hah
I was wondering what the definition would end being
So… Let’s try it. Beats listening to you regurgitate the same tired and repeatedly disproven DLC crap that got us into this mess in the first place :)
Barton – “What we have here is a failure to communicate.”
Great. The fucking R policy could be put forward by Strother Martin.
Good news, some Rs are pushing back on Stupak Amd:
http://news.firedoglake.com/2009/11/07/shadegg-r-to-vote-present-on-stupak-amendment/
i’m off. and i’m gonna read your stuff to catch up when I come back so take good notes, and destroy all trolls.
Barton says there are really only two or three people who want insurance who can’t get it. The GOP bill won’t give these two or three the money they need for insurance, but will give them access to it.
Just two or three, really.
Annoyingly not unlike a favorite certain tinted seafood.
But I digress…
Hah! and all this talk of Pelosi and the Vatican has me thinking mitres!
“Cool Hand” Barton now. Opportunity yes. Paying for it. No. What a piece of work. And that tie?
Pete Stark.
Alright.
thanks. i’m all discombubbleated these days, schedule be danged.
and somehow the whole lege has been populated with trolls, sometime when i wuz sleepin’ r’ something….
Can’t ANY of the pugs figure out that they just MIGHT want some weensie part of the world still intact for their failing years? I’M sure as hecque not gonna feed ‘em their yankee beans; that’s fer durn sure. Idgits, and mean tempered to boot. Disgusting trash.
thanks. it helps just knowing folks like you are out there across the land. ;->
Primarying moderates worked very, very well for the Republicans. They had fantastic party discipline and dominated government for years with tiny, tiny majorities. They’ve been purging the party since 1994 and before, and thta’s how they won all those close votes.
The Democrats have 60 votes in the Senate and they’re practically on life support, because of all the Masanfs in the party get away woth murder.
My hatred of the Yankees dates to the days when the they played the Senators, my hometown team. Did enjoy seeing Mantle, DiMaggio et al play throughout my childhood, though. The Senators were so bad I switched allegiance to Da Bums of Brooklyn, the Yankees traditional rival. Still bleed Dodger Blue.
Stark! “GOP – No Solution At All!”
Make him buy his on the open market.
Prolly with more coherence.
Couldn’t get thru to TX Rep…
Paging Jane Hamsher, Paging Jane Hamsher:
Please get off the phone for a moment and drop some ire onto the thread!
“Cholly” Rangel looks like he’s lost a lot of weight.
stuff on his mind, I suppose.
Sorry, can you restate? I’m not sure I understand your question.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Where’s my pipe?
Jim McDermott rocking.
Did you get an email from OFA stating what you said upthread? Or is there a link?
Does anyone suppose that the D’s have enough balls to let Alan Grayson have a moment or two?
Used to love the Senators and their ballfield. Griffin or was it Griffiths field?
“…scraped up off the floor.” Love it. Right off the House floor!
Did you leave it in your tree? :)
I love live-threads.
Not thinking of a crack pipe are you?
Lloyd Doggett!
Spanked them Goopers. Beautiful.
Yep! They’re totally hopping!
Lloyd Doggett rocking. Not all Texans assholes. (Though statistically predominate.)
Blumenauer is good – but he looks like “the science guy”
Or something.
Amen….he was great.
Griffith Park. It was a great place to watch a ball game. My grampa took me until I was old enough to go on my own. We’d moved to Alexandria but with the great mass transit system they had in those days I could get anywhere in no time. Buses and streetcars with the overhead power cables.
too bad you weren’t around for presidential debate live-threads – those were a hoot.
bicycle pin?
Not on your life.
Why’d'ya think they call him Blunt?
I wish Blunt would actually smoke one. :)
Nah, never take smoking materials to bed.
Epic, once-in-a-lifetime action.
I lurked in those days. But I remember them, lemme tell you.
You got that right.
Blunt obfuscating.
nope, I was wrong – he’s blatantly lying.
It was a great ball park and the Senators always had some interesting ball players. Tiger fan here and also hated the Yankees but have softened. over the years.
Wonder what kinda heart palpitations the health insurance corporatists are having right now.
Guy behind Blunt looks like Ghouliani.
I would sacrifice this entire bill for a lot less than the Stupak Amendment, I’d sacrifice it for being an incredibly poor piece of legislation that does exactly nothing to deal with the purported reason why we engaged in this whole exercise in the first place; dual optimizing for coverage and cost.
If this stupid amendment is the thing that kills this abortion (pun intended) of legislation I’ll be stunned, because I’m just not that lucky.
Prolly at the “tee many martoonis” stage by now.
Hey, what’s the Stupak office # again? [anybody have it handy]
Let’s bombard his office last minute!
Bankrupt the nation? The Republicans along with their allies in the Democratic party have already done that.
You don’t think that others can do the job? This threatens tens of millions with LOSING their already acquired access to the reproductive options they CHOOSE.They, and their unions, have worked hard to optain plans with a full range of services.
Then Stupak comes along and says…”you can’t have an abortion, even on a plan you pay for, because it is administered through an “exchange”". That’s theft.
That’s Mr. Golf Clap.
David Dayen – right here!
Shadegg (R) To Vote Present On Stupak Amendment
Withdraw, or PRIMARY! That’ll be what I say.
Possibly they are sorting out who needs to cover their ass more…it’ll lose by one vote.
They’ve probably already got the final vote tally figured out and are planning their next three years of denials and premium increases.
Cholly winding up.
Ahhhh, the end of this blathering is in sight. Maybe.
Here it is!

Call!
Has Grayson had an opportunity to speak?
I’ve heard of the Bullhead Clap, but never Golf Clap. No wonder I don’t play golf anymore.
Dear LurkMod: Somebody gonna start a new thread when the debate winds up? Or are we just moving upstairs to the Shadegg thread?
This would be Stupak, right?
Moving upstairs is probably a good idea.
Yes – sorry! Waz in a hurry….
TLM will be moving over, but them, TLM is everywhere all at once…
Just called and Stupid’s mailbox is full.
Hah! It’s very polite.
Hank Waxdome in the house. Go Hank.
Omnipresent, huh. Also omniscient?
I’m not saying he’s the only person who can do it. But we’ve all seen how some people can be compromised once they get chairs — a la Joe Lieberman.
This is so fucking ugly, really jacked.
Go, Henry, go!
Thank ye, o omnipresent LurkMod. All hail!
Your own your own. Social Darwinism lives in the Repubican Party. Heartless ghouls.
Just found out meself. DANG!
Stupak’s fax number : (202) 225-4744
Already had to use it today.
Try a fax as the machine is frequently near the office area and staffers will see it more promptly than other forms of communication.
Forget emails unless you have someone’s direct address in his office.
Grandstand Oppose and Pretend. Not bad.
Grandstand Oppose and Pretend

Michelle asked her baggers to attend – read that somewhere today.
I just love it when you talk dirty.
I’ll take one Emersom :)
i wonder if they could possibly act as blame-plagued stoopid as a crooked local school bd. majority (3 outta 5) i once watched threaten to fire various teachers, carrying out said threat by way of a sick little game rotating the task of casting a “no” vote. They, not being truly gifted in the math-ah-numeracull arts, predictably lost count and accidentally fired a teacher (who was protected by tenure plus lack total lack of cause for dismissal).
Meeting progress left skid marks on the little wood desk-heads as the 3 dododohs huddled, then announced that, since the public might not understand how voting works, they would repeat that last vote to make sure everyone understood. With nary a shred of embarrassment that would melt lesser beings, they repeated the vote which reinstated the teacher.
Never since, until now, have i ever seen such a travesty. Unless one counts that intriguing, supremely bobbled vote in the year of dubble oughts.
