Yesterday, I mused about whether Ben Bernanke had the votes to keep his job. Bloomberg seems to confirm that he does.
Ben S. Bernanke has the backing of a majority of U.S. senators on the Banking Committee for a second term as Federal Reserve chairman.
Eight Democrats and four Republicans, among the 23 lawmakers on the panel overseeing the central bank, made their views known in interviews, comments to reporters or written statements. Some said they will support Bernanke, while others said they’re leaning in his favor.
The article lists the definite and lean-yes supporters: Chris Dodd, Sherrod Brown, Tim Johnson, Jack Reed, Charles Schumer, Evan Bayh, Daniel Akaka and Mark Warner for the Dems; Judd Gregg, Mike Johanns, Robert Bennett and Bob Corker for the Republicans.
Advocacy groups have kept up the pressure, including the Campaign for America’s Future today, which put up a call to action that the Federal Reserve must be audited before Bernanke is confirmed. But it looks like the best that can happen is that Bernanke gets some tough questioning.
