This is a few days old, but it appeared to have miraculously escaped the news cycle. It seems that after Parker Griffith left the Democrats, but before he drew half of North Alabama as an opponent, he stole a bunch of voter data from the state Democratic Party.
A US House representative from Alabama took voter registration information from Democratic Party offices before defecting to the GOP, the Alabama branch of the Democratic Party says [...]
The Alabama Democratic Party issued a statement Wednesday accusing Griffith’s political consultancy, Main Street Strategies, of downloading “sensitive voter identification data that was the property of the Alabama Democratic Party.”
“This final act was obviously intended to aid Mr. Griffith in his new role as a Republican candidate. Upon hearing of Mr. Griffith’s switch, security measures were taken to prevent further transfers of data,” the statement read.
Even though the “sensitive” voter data helped elect Griffith in 2008, “in the wee hours before he became a Republican, Parker Griffith’s political operatives, with full knowledge of what was occurring, went online and downloaded our confidential records,” Alabama Democratic Party Chairman Joe Turnham said.
Data of this type can be used in voter targeting and are typically guarded zealously.
Mooncat adds that the only one of Griffith’s consultants not to resign after his party switch was Joey Ceci, who runs Main Street Strategies. As a result of all this, Artur Davis, who is running for Governor in Alabama, accepted Ceci’s resignation last week.
Ceci is a two-time board member of the Business Council of Alabama, which is essentially an adjunct to the state’s Chamber of Commerce. The President of the Business Council is Bill Canary, the politically powerful close friend to Karl Rove. He and his wife are implicated in the Don Siegelman case. Canary reportedly said on a conference call in 2002 that Siegelman would not be a problem for re-election because he would be prosecuted by the federal government, and his wife Leura was the US Attorney who ended up prosecuting the case.
Let’s just say that, based on Griffith’s friends and associates, theft is probably the least damning thing he has done.

About FDL News Desk
Loved the way you wrapped this up, David. Excellent, as usual. GA is so lucky to have AL next door, for when things look sour for GA, they can always point their collective finger toward the land immediately past the dotted line to the west.
Lovely. Did Emmanuel recruit this one, too?
OMG, I am so laughing my ass off at this.
Yep. The guy kept his Vote Builder password and downloaded everything he could while the password was still viable. Something tells me he didn’t have to do it in the middle of the night, either – I bet they were asleep at the switch and didn’t think to terminate the password until it was too late.
He may have waited until the last minute, but once he had a password and access to Vote Builder, this is what can happen. The pitfall of the program is that we don’t have a list of the many “potential turncoats” who don’t need to light up their underpants to strike where it hurts.
Let it be a lesson.
please, don’t anyone tell us they’re surprised. much more surprising if he hadn’t.
This guy should be sent to one of the Obama Internment Camps. Are the camps up and running yet?
“it appeared to have miraculously escaped the news cycle.”
Nonsense. it was intentionally ignored by the media so they could continue their 24/7 fearmongering of the terrorist incident. You can bet it would be quite different if this were a Democrat.
[edited by mod] When are these demorats gonna get serious about taking care of the peoples business? They are running out of time.
[mod note: Please to not suggest acts of violence on anyone. Thank you.]
OH Now were moderating comments, talk about censoring free speech
If our gov’t is our guide, American Values for the new decade appear to be:
1. Lie
2. Cheat
3. Steal
4. Kill (but only if you were just torturing)
somebody cue up Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World”.
Parker Griffith ran as a centrist Democrat two years ago, was personally recruited by now White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel
Apparently you are new to FDL where violent language is not appreciated, nor tolerated.
You might be new to this site, but comments here have always been moderated to remove violence. If you don’t like it, there are plenty of other internet sites where you can comment.
((((mods))))
This is a great place to learn, share and even have a rant when one needs to. Very few rules, and it’s not hard to follow them.
Free speech? Pretty much. If you want to play here, you may want to consider being a team player.
That Rahm, he’s such a winner. /s
He sure can pick ‘em, can’t he? Man’s got some keen sense.
I can spot a cheating liar from my front porch.
In case you are unclear on the concept, “free speech” applies to the government control of citizens’ rights. It does not apply to what is tolerated by the proprietors of a blog, or for that matter, to what I would tolerate in my home.
I’ve long believed the Dem party has been infiltrated. (Rove’s boasting of a permanent Repub majority wasn’t just wishful thinking.) This case confirms that.
I’m wondering how hard or costly it would be to run an Alabama state wide reminder to all Dems, reminding them to check their voter status, before registration times run out?
Caging will probably be high and validly targeting Alabama Democratic voters this time.
LOL
Are there any legal implications here? If he was still a D when he took the stuff, can they prosecute him for theft?
Yeah, what am I thinking…we’re talking about the Democratic Party here. They would probably do a courtesy delivery of boxes of hard copies of this stuff directly to Griffith’s new R offices (with neatly boxed copies sent to the RNC hq).
Republicans are assholes — even the converted ones.
The first step is admitting you are an
assholerepublican. If the data is that valuable – and it would be quite valuable based solely on its cost of collection, let alone on the additional cost paid to analyze or make it, which is what creates its present market value – then its theft is a felony, justifying heavy fines and jail time.
Pursuing grand thieves is not politicizing crime. It’s applying the criminal law to the guys in suits, who think they’re above it. Think GM, here. When a favorite son and heir to the chairmanship skipped town with the plans for a new car – and went over to Volkswagen, a global competitor – GM pursued him with a vengeance. It finally got the evidence and made him and VW pay the appropriate penalties.
The Dems would be fools to do less.
We are talking about Democrats here. They have already proven themselves in that regard. I doubt this will end well.
We know we’re talking about Dems, which is why stating the obvious is so necessary.
As you say, odds are, they’ll do an Obama, that is, do nothing, because it would be so rude to point out a defector’s possible criminality, let alone do something about it. Had these guys led England during the Blitz, we’d all be speaking German or Japanese.
No comment…..other than the Democrats made their own beds here….
Good Riddance to the Democratic Party!
America is a One-Party Country!
