Throughout the next two months, we will hear a common complaint from Blanche Lincoln as she runs for re-election against Bill Halter: that outside interests are coming into Arkansas and telling the people who should represent them. Surely she’ll say that about MoveOn.org, national labor groups, and the Sierra Club, which just launched a series of IE ads in Arkansas.
Of course, it’s the Arkansas chapter of the Sierra Club objecting to Lincoln’s support for stopping the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases. And similarly, the state AFL-CIO, the local coalition for working Arkansans, just endorsed Halter in the primary.
The Arkansas AFL-CIO says it’s backing Lt. Gov. Bill Halter’s bid against Sen. Blanche Lincoln in the Democratic primary.
Arkansas AFL-CIO President Alan Hughes says the union’s executive board voted to support Halter. The union backed Lincoln in her re-election bid in 2004, but had soured on her because of her positions on health care and key union organizing legislation.
Lincoln is no stranger to support from outside the state. Her joining with Lisa Murkowski to block the EPA regulations may be due to hundreds of thousands of dollars from electric utilities. And her contribution list reveals a litany of outside money. But the strongest rebuttal to her argument about extremist outsiders can be made by the state President of the AFL-CIO, who once backed Lincoln. Arkansas has seen its labor population dwindle, but the optics matter to knock down Lincoln’s narrative.
UPDATE: Here’s outsider coastal elite Bob Menendez of the DC outsider Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee supporting Blanche Lincoln.

About FDL News Desk
Any Senator who receives federal subsides, contracts, or other goodies and/or directs contracts to their contributors should in any rational government be extreme. In our government this now appears to be common. Corruption has become a way of life.
Lincoln thinks that Halter should leave her and her fellow Arkansans alone and go back to wherever he came from.
Oh, wait.
Isn’t he a fourth-generation Arkansan who has won in state-wide elections?
Menedez says they always support the incumbent — it’s a club, not a legislative body representing citizens
I’ve broken down Lincoln’s in-state/out-of-state cash contributions here. Her own campaign cash is coming predominantly from out of state.
How does she square this fact with her campaign rhetoric?
Looks like Halter will have a fine comeback when Lincoln tries to spout the outsider bullshit during the debate.
Also, it may be wise for progressives to sit back and let her build this narrative until it’s firmly embedded in the voters’ minds, and then hit her over the head with ads that show her in bed with outside interests.
Hmm…wasn’t Winthrop Rockefeller-former Governor of Arkansas- an outsider who became Governor, later on, succeeded by his son?
Isn’t he a fourth-generation Arkansan who has won in state-wide elections?
Clearly an outsider, most likely straight from the Kremlin.
How does she square this fact with her campaign rhetoric?
Probably because the MSM is too lazy and/or stupid to ask her the question.
I was also not aware of the deep roots of Barack Obama and Robert Gibbs in Arkansas. They too support Blanche.
Well, well, well. Back in the olden days when I was naive, I used to think that Democrats were *more* honest that their Republic counterparts. I mean, lately, all Republics seem to know how to do is LIE, and LIE, and LIE about everything. Is the sky blue? Why no, you silly librul, it’s always green, doncha know?
Although I only count on Dems to lie, too, these days, there does usually seem to be a tiny shred of honesty left in some members of that wing of our single-party system, Republicrats.
However, Stinkin-Lincoln has jumped the shark and gone full-tilt boogie into the nether reaches of the Republic lie-spin zone. Why be honest when you can LIE away? What’s the point of morals, if it means more $$$ for you & yours??
I fully expect this venal creature to lie her butt off during the campaign, but then again: how is that any different from when she opens her pie-hole now? She is like someone I used to work with: if her mouth is open & sound is coming out, it’s a lie.
Same old, different day.
Unsurprised. What else is new? Stinkin-Lincoln did the job that Rahmbama wanted her to do. Naturally they LOVE her; why would they not? It would only be newsworthy, if this thugly duo actually supported Halter. Ain’t gonna happen.
Gibbs is a magnificent and exuberant ass. Do not ask me about our President.
I like that thinking. But offset that with the damage potentially being done to Halter in the interim, if it goes uncontested.
BO, you’re gonna drive me to drinkin’
If you don’t stop supportin’ that Crupt Blanche Lincoln
(Thanks and apologies, Charlie Ryan.)
Politics is the last refuge of scoundrels …. from the laws of physics.
Even electrons can tell the truth better. (Compliments of our future federal debt service payments.)
I can’t fathom why Lincoln wants to stay in the senate when she can street walk from K Street to Pennsylvania Avenue much easier and more profitably for the Walton family.
Isn’t that the truth?
Citizen Knoxville:
Halter looks like he’s pretty savvy about campaignin’ in Arkansas…his first ad was built right off of his campaign for Lt. Governor where he beat the Clinton-Tyson-Walton candidate for the nomination and cruised. He will hit hard and often with the Washington insider hammer and her family’s dippin’ at the trough of federal subsidies is gunna really hurt ‘er. Halter will cut her down so low in the debate that she’ll hafta wear open-toed sandals ta breathe when it’s over.

Cushier gig with less aggravation. Go figure.
Decisions, decisions. Poor Blanche…
I hope Rachel calls her out on that.
Whenever some teevee person calls her a moderate democrat, and they all do, I cringe.
I dunno, if she worked directly for a corporation, maybe she’d have to, you know, like: work? And possibly have to be concerned about interests other than just HER own.
I sure don’t see her doing anything much that’s productive right now, and she’s certainly only & solely looking out for numero uno.
GAH… ain’t that the truth? Truly cringe-making, that one.
As we all know here, BHO is largely responsible for pushing the Overton Window over this far to the right. Thanks for nuttin’, Barry.
The new extremist right is today’s “moderate Democrat.” PUKE.
Although in context with some of the lunatic fringe currently running the Republic wing of our one-party system, I guess Stinkin-Lincoln is kinda-sorta a (shudder) “moderate” of a sort. Not my sort, but “of” a sort.
gah
Boy, the Arkansas AFL-CIO is truly desperate. Halter not in favor of EFCA, and has made no clear statement on labor law reform at all.
Why bother to square that with anything when the lies roll so easily from her tongue? I’m sure those fact-y things bother Lincoln not one whit.
A K Streetwalker’s dream job, she can take her WalMart limo — no need to get exercised about pretending to do the People’s business.
Frankly, I think Lincoln will announce her retirement soon, then open up a lobby shop with Bayh — Concerned Trolling Blue Dogs R US
Fair enough. But as Norske points out @ 17, Halter’s going to do a fine job defending himself.
As outsiders, we might to well to hold back while Lincoln tries to use us to beat on Halter. We can build up the biggest warchest possible to run ads and wait to run them until the last couple of weeks before the primary, when more people will be paying attention anyway.
Lincoln’s already revealed the sum total of her campaign, so there’s no question how we’d have to hit her back.
I’m just saying that maybe we should wait to deliver the knockout blow until closer to the end of round 15 (the weeks just before primary day) rather than waste a lot of money and energy trying to deliver the worst blows early.
The axe may have already fallen.
If Bentonville thinks it will get more bang for its buck backing any republican senate candidate, regardless of who wins the democratic primary, Blanche is already more than half cooked.
Especially with that communist in the White House supporting her.
if we would just replace these bad democrats with a different cog of the corrupt machine- That is going to make it better how?
It’s all irrelevant ….Lincoln’s seat is going Republican or Tea Party regardless of who the Democrats put up as a sacrificial lamb…read the polls people!!!
Regardless what the truth about all the funding may be, she is the sitting Senator from Arkansas and will campaign to keep that seat, and this rhetoric is not only reasonable, it is factual and to be expected. The sitting Senator can fairly tell her constituents that this seat is for the people of Arkansas and not for the rest of the country to decide. Whether the voters choose to believe that and support her is another thing. I don’t support her, and am behind Halter all the way, but if she successfully portrays all of this as a national debate trying to force a choice upon Arkansas, then fine- I’d rather have her succeed and win and keep the seat for the Ds than have it go to the fascists.
What are the chances that Labor and other Democratic constituency groups, along with the netroots, will come together to get involved in other races? Open seats (like the Ohio Senate seat) are a great place to have an impact. Taking our Blanche is a good thing, but if it is not followed up with more, it will not make much of a difference.
