Via Carla Axtman, Kurt Schrader (D-OR) will vote yes:
“In the coming days I plan to vote in favor of the healthcare bill before the U.S. House of Representatives because our nation and Oregon families cannot afford the status quo.
One of my chief concerns with healthcare reform has been its ability to lower costs for Oregon families, small businesses and our nation as a whole. While I believe there is more we can do, this bill makes real progress in bending the cost curve. It includes lower and more appropriate subsidies than earlier proposals. It rewards healthy lifestyles and encourages better healthy outcomes by including my comparative effectiveness research component. We have also reached an agreement with Congressional leaders and the Administration to improve Medicare reimbursement rates for high quality care states like Oregon. It is time to move away from the old healthcare culture of just paying for quantity of care and instead focusing on quality of care. By focusing on quality of care we can attack the problem of overutilization that is the major driver of healthcare costs.
Schrader was a pretty necessary get for Pelosi. It doesn’t totally change the calculus: Democrats must limit the Stupak bloc to 6, and pick up 2 votes elsewhere, either from uncommitted members who voted No last time (Baird, L.Davis, Nye, Tanner) or from flipping some hard No vote.
UPDATE: Three others to watch, who I think will come around but who aren’t totally confirmed: Loretta Sanchez, Jim Cooper, and Ron Klein.
UPDATE: Cooper talking about history in the making, sounds like a Yes.

Like watching my mom cough out her life little by little. Or watching the cancer eat my dad’s digestive tract slowly while his lungs filled up with fluid. At least they had real health care options.
DailyKos has a story, with dubious twittersourcing, that Glenn Nye has committed to yes.
I think you are sad today. Would you like a big glass of red wine? I have See’s dark chocolate almonds to go with it. I love chocolate and red wine.
How will the Obamahealthcare plan effect the Oregon Plan?

I actually just enjoyed some dark chocolate with a nice Zinfandel. Not a fan of red wines though so much…
TPM:
Am I naive, or is this abomination of a bill gonna pass, regardless of DDay’s ‘vote count’?
It’s gonna pass. If it doesn’t, they’ll water it down more, screw everyone just a little harder, take a little more insurance money, and try it all over again until it succeeds. Just needs a few more backroom deals, couple more bribes here and here, and a few more moneybombs on the blogs, and voila!
Oh yeah.
Well I hope he wears that vote around his neck and loses his next election.
No, you’re not. It’s going to pass. It’s been inevitable for weeks, if not months. It’s been kabuki and windfall all this time.
US Congress poised to pass Obama’s cost-cutting health plan
By Kate Randall
20 March 2010
World Socialist Web Site
“……Barack Obama spoke Friday in northern Virginia, making a final pitch for passage of his health care legislation. The rally at George Mason University culminated a weeks-long public relations blitz for the plan….In reality, Obama’s health care plan will increase private insurance company profits, slash hundreds of billions of dollars from the Medicare program for the elderly, and set into motion a series of measures that will result in reduced care and rationing of services for the vast majority of working families. The legislation has nothing to do with “reform” of the health system to expand and improve care, but is aimed rather at radically reducing government spending and business costs…. As Obama addressed his mostly student crowd, House Democratic leaders were scrambling to assemble the 216 votes necessary to pass the legislation. If all works to plan, the House will vote Sunday to approve the previous Senate version of the bill along with an accompanying package of amendments. The reconciled bill would then be sent to the Senate for approval by a simple majority vote, then on to the president to be signed into law…..The White House got a boost Thursday with the release of a report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that estimated the Obama plan had a $940 billion price-tag and would reduce the federal deficit by $138 billion over 10 years. In the yearlong wrangling over provisions of the legislation, Obama has consistently pledged that it would not add “one dime” to the federal deficit…..The Democratic leadership was “absolutely giddy” over the CBO’s report, according to House Majority Whip James Clyburn, Democrat of South Carolina, as it gave Speaker Nancy Pelosi and White House officials new ammunition to sway reluctant, mainly conservative House Democrats to commit to a “yes” vote on Sunday….With the release of the CBO report, the White House and Democratic leaders largely reverted to selling their plan as a means of reining in soaring federal deficits and a model for more sweeping cuts in social “entitlement” programs to come……”

And each person who caved in will get a hug and an invitation to the WH for dinner – with Rahm.
As I thought.
Of course! The ultimate reward these days! A taste of the Villager life.
I just e’d the white house that i’m slapping myself upside the head for forgetting to buy health and pharma stocks last week…….and hoping that all the guys there loaded up.
Speeking of kabuki, I’ve got some bunraku if you’re interested…
Kucinich throws his support behind Obama health care bill
By David Walsh
19 March 2010
World Socialist Web Site
“….The decision by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Democrat from Ohio, to vote and campaign among his fellow members of Congress for the White House health care bill falls under the heading of the entirely predictable…..Anyone who has paid attention to the career of this phony populist knew more or less how the process would unfold. Kucinich would slam the regressive measure until close to the end, then fold his tent and meekly bow to the pressure exerted by the Obama administration, and through the latter, the most powerful sections of the American ruling elite……His most famous previous climb-down came in July 2004, when, after months of denouncing the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, Sen. John Kerry, for his pro-Iraq war views, Kucinich caved in prior to the Democrats’ national convention and called for unity behind the Massachusetts senator. In a speech at the convention, Kucinich called on delegates and voters to “blaze a new path with John Kerry and John Edwards.”….Kucinich now promises to vote for a reactionary bill that unashamedly protects the profits of the giant insurance and pharmaceutical interests while sharply reducing and rationing care for the majority of the American people…..The Obama administration, in the guise of “reform,” has crafted a measure that will enable the health insurance companies to rake in untold revenues from millions of new customers forced to purchase bare-bones health coverage. Moreover, hundreds of billions of dollars will be cut from Medicare, the program for the elderly and disabled. There is nothing progressive about the health care measure; it is not a step or half-step forward. It represents a full-scale social regression……No wonder polls indicate that a majority of Americans are suspicious of or openly hostile to the plan…..Kucinich knows all this perfectly well. As recently as last Sunday, in an op-ed column published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he pointed out, “Unfortunately, the president’s plan…leaves patients financially vulnerable to insurance companies. It requires all Americans to buy private health insurance policies, while failing to ensure those policies do what they are supposed to do—protect people from financial catastrophe caused by injury or illness… [T]he bill that the president is proposing is a step in the wrong direction.” The piece clearly implied that Kucinich would vote against the measure….”

Again, I think Boucher’s undecided and Kaptur’s lean yes.
Kucinich bent over all so graciously and spread his nether cheeks. Didn’t even request a condom.
But he got to ride on de plane ! It’s all good.
Oh, thank you SO much for that image eCAHN!
if we’re lucky, no. It appears they’re having trouble getting the last few votes.
Kucinich said he did not take back any of his criticism. It was a vote for the President and the party. Not that I agree with his rationale, but that’s what he said.
he’s already shot it down.
how reliable is a politically-affiliated news site? It’s like asking Fox News.
That’s beautiful Kelly, Thanks. :)
There’s also that motion to recommit whatsit.

Gonna’ be a damn crowded White House dining room!
Yep….
As for the World Socialist Web Site, they have been correct all along about these spineless Democrats.
I would never view the fine intellectuals at the World Socialist Web Site with Fox News. As a matter of fact, I take more stock in the writings/analysis found at the World Socialist Web Site more than I do the New York Times, Washington Post, LATimes, and the Huffington Post.
But, I understand the thought processes of moronic Democratic Party suck-ups who still think Obama out for “peace,” and that the Democratic Party “opposed Bush’s war in Iraq.”
Yes, and another chance to lube one’s self and then bend over to take one more for the team, before they eat that Obama meat, and then pivot to their next item—–
The Democrats slashing of Social Security and the same fools here supporting Obama’s healthcare charade will be just as glad to support throwing people off of Social Security.
What a pol sez is worth nothing. Surely you’ve figured that out by now.
Kate Randall and those at WSWS, along with writers and analysts at the Black Agenda Report, are, in fact, quite credible……
Like the sources you refer to do not have a bias or political bent….Yes, the people you listen and take as credible are the defenders of the Corporate-Military State of America which thinks nothing of the average man or woman unless its using the people as pawns in their empire of hate, violence, and looting….
At least the people writing for the WSWS do not defend the awful policies of this Corporate-Military-Police State of America, which is more into repression by the day and night.
So this is the here and now. But what about the here after?
Do we have some new angles on this new world?
and a mighty fine website it is.
Please tell me how to read this chart. I don’t see many Representatives listed. What to the +# entries mean.
Cooper was never in doubt. Obama pwns him. Ron Klein is more at risk — he’s got a well-funded tea party challenger, but the guy has run into a few scandals lately.

Glenn Nye just released a statement that he’ll be voting no.
http://hamptonroads.com/2010/03/document-text-nyes-health-care-bill-statement
That makes no sense.
A core Republican would vote along with the party, because the party is governed from the base.
But the Democrats do not govern from the base at all.
If anything, he should be voting against the bill to support the progressives.
