And it is necessary:
House Minority Leader John Boehner told his conference to “behave like grown-ups” if the healthcare bill is passed by the House on Sunday.
The Ohio Republican made the warning at a quick closed-door meeting with fellow House GOP lawmakers at noon in the Capitol.
According to several lawmakers who attended the 15 minute meeting, Boehner said “we will behave like grown-ups,” and not engage in taunting the vulnerable Democrats who support the controversial measure.
This didn’t stop them from, earlier today, putting mug shots of a bunch of Democrats who voted for the Clinton budget in 1993 and lost their seats.
I’m also wondering if the “behave like grownups” statements should actually be delivered to the base:
Looks like black and gay lawmakers aren’t the only ones being pelted with vicious slurs by folks who oppose the health reform proposal. Add a Hispanic lawmaker to the list. Trifecta!
Rep Ciro Rodriguez of Texas has confided to colleages that he was hammered by ethnic slurs by people opposed to reform passing, one of those colleagues tells me [...]
Rodriguez’s spokesperson, Rebeca Chapa, gets in touch to say that he was slammed as a “wetback” by an anti-reform protestor at a town meeting this week.
And another opponent called Rodriguez’ home and told the family member who answered to “go back to Mexico.”
What an ugly, ugly movement.

Truly the most despicable. But they do constantly succeed in driving everyone into mindless drivel… as well as further right.
*heh* I just mentioned Boehner in my latest diary…
You keep attributing the acts of a few individuals to the entire “movement.” This logical error of false generalization is the the same thinking which gives rise to racism and its ilk.
That sounds like something a proctologist would say.
Name one of them who is separating themselves from the herd?
Boehner said “we will behave like grown-ups,” and not engage in taunting the vulnerable Democrats who support the controversial measure.
oh fer chrissakes.
Boner is up, already looking like he’s fighting back tears.
*heh* From my diary…
Maybe he just should have said,’Elections have consequences.’
meanwhile… Boehner begins to melt down
I actually have no problem with what Boehner said. Seems appropriate. This is the House after all.
De Ja Vu… all over again…? ;-)
we are all in service to the lizard brain it seems.
fuck you obama for empowering them, what on earth made you think they’re not your doom – fucking moron
…and at least one tea-baggers is being investigated by the Secret Service for a threat on twitter.

(update at bottom)
Boehner is busy fighting back tears at the podium.
He’s not too far away from throwing a temper tantrum of his own.
There is enough ugliness to go around and around and around.
Yeah well. BS! *s*
Video or it didn’t happen.
GOP booing the President from the floor of Congress.
Right, because being a person who uses those sorts of terms is a prerequisite for wanting smaller government, lower taxes, and not having an economic disaster of historic proportions rammed down the throats of the unwilling people.
See you in November. Remember Pearl Harbor.
Next time you want to separate yourself from the “herd”, do not throw in a comparison to an act of war that killed THOUSANDS of Americans to prove some rhetorical point.
All you’ve proven is that you swallowed the Glenn Beck tripe just like the herd.
Wanker.
What has happened that David refers to is this:
Democrats do not have any sense of the anger out there.
No one should throw around curses. But, people are pissed off big time. Big time.
I care not one whit about separating myself from the herd. And I think Glenn Beck is a hysteric.
The comparison to Pearl Harbor is an appropriate one. The Left thinks they have struck a decisive blow from which the Right will never recover, but all they have done is angered the sleeping giant of the otherwise apathetic public, and they will pay a terrible cost a few years down the road. In addition, thousands of Americans will die prematurely once health care rationing goes into effect, as they did at Pearl Harbor. [I'm sick of the Left's arguments that people die due to lack of health insurance -- as though with health insurance, people would *never* die].
But more importantly,
Forced to resort to name calling, huh? Very progressive and egalitarian.
At the point at which you deserve to be called names, you will be called names. I have never staked out a position that I am above that.
And I nearly died because my health insurance was crappy. Right now my health insurance is giving me a load of double-talk to try and avoid paying for the anti-rejection medication I need to avoid another long and painful descent into near-death.
I have friends who have horrible, debilitating conditions that would be completely and totally manageable with proper treatment. Treatment that they cannot get because they don’t have insurance or because their insurance slapped a “pre-existing condition” label on them. One of them had cancer at age 3 for God’s sake! She’s being punished for something that happened to her as a child!
If you cannot see the problem with THAT~~~EDITED IN MODERATION~~~
~~~ModNote: We are done with the name-calling.~~~
Before Boehner expects his wingnut goons to behave like adults he should be setting the example himself and not be behaving like a spoiled three-year-old having a temper tantrum.
The anger I feel is with the sell out to the insurance industry. If we had been given single payer or a public option I would be on board. While this bill is crap the concept of delivering health care for all, and not seeing the devastation the for profit insurance model we have accepted, is a noble one. Unfortunately we have Rahmobama as the President and spineless trolls running the Democratic Party. Hooray for big government when it is delivering something other than wars and tax cuts for the rich.
I would want to see any form of proof on the Ciro Rodriguez claims…..the lewis ones have not been able to show ay videotape, and I have seen more videotape showing nothing of the like happened….Cameras are everywhere now…so if someting happened, it should be easy enough to find someone with videotape showing it.
It’s back to the trailer park for these clods. Next!
That is only a reaction to the tanning fluid.
I believe it was Karl Rove who said: “Get over it.”
