Now that the victim of their persecution prosecution is dead, federal prosecutors have dropped the charges against Aaron Swartz:
Federal prosecutors in Boston have dismissed charges against Internet freedom activist Aaron Swartz, who was found dead in his New York apartment last week.
U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz and the lead prosecutor on the case, Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Heymann, filed a three-line notice of dismissal in court Monday.
The notice says the case is being dismissed because of Swartz’s death
Oh well. Let’s all just move on. US Attorney Ortiz has other things to think about.
Update: US Attorney Ortiz announced she would not run for office on January 7.

That was awfully big of them!
And at the perfect time, too.
Mission Accomplished!
I am speechless.
Yeah, can’t have anymore of that “discovery” going on.
Higher office as predicted?
I am actually disappointed. I would love to see them go through with this travesty so everyone can see how morally corrupt Ortiz and these people actually are.
Maybe Carmen will become a venomous talking butt on the pundit circuit.
I worked in Boston in 2008/’09 and word was that three people were in contention for the U.S. Attorney’s Office: Carmen Ortiz (pushed by Ted Kennedy), someone who I cannot remember, and Marty Murphy, a law firm partner a former AUSA and assistant DA who, in 2012, co-chaired a Boston bar Association task force to shepherd DNA exoneration legislation through the state assembly: http://www.foleyhoag.com/NewsCenter/PressCenter/2012/02/DNA-Testing-Bill.aspx
The contrast could not be greater.
