It seems the more schools take up the NRA’s advice to arm teachers and other school employees the more unsafe the school becomes. First it was a firearms instructor leaving his gun in the student’s bathroom and now a school employee has been accidentally shot while preparing to implement the NRA’s solution to school shootings.
Van ISD Superintendent Don Dunn has confirmed an employee was shot during private instruction after a school district sponsored handgun training safety class.
Multiple sources, including teachers at Van ISD, and from the employee’s family, tell us that the employee is Glenn Geddie, who works in the maintenance department for Van ISD. We can confirm that Geddie is at ETMC in Tyler, listed in fair condition.
Back in January, the Van Independent School District school board authorized “certain school employees and other persons” to carry authorized firearms on school property.
Arming janitors now? That’s the best response to the Sandy Hook school shootings?
Dunn also said in January that they are all concerned something could go wrong with this plan, but the possibility of an attack on campus outweighs that fear.
Why worry about people getting shot when people could get shot. But hey, more guns will be bought for this program and isn’t that what the gun industry NRA really wants?

we are awash in sheer stupidity; thankfully this “incident” took place between consenting adults.
I’m glad you ran this. I was considering doing a piece on it.
It’s important to get stories like this out, because it shows that when you add guns to the environment they make people less safe. Our problem is that when the next shooting happens and nobody has guns, the NRA guns everywhere people, push the “If only someone there had a gun.” story.
We have to show people how the school environment is changed FOR THE WORSE during the 149 days a year that there is no crazed shooter. And the years upon years of no crazed shooter. But what you have now is a greater chance of a negligent shooting like this. But also the entire envirment has changed. The school becomes an “armed camp” and that impacts how people interact.
But its hard to convince some people in Texas that more guns are bad if they don’t hear stories like this. All they hear about are the stories where the ‘gun free zone” was picked by the crazy person to go shoot up.
For the same reason we have to cut Social Security benefits so that we won’t have to cut Social Security benefits, silly!
To the tune of “Blazing Saddles”:
He packed a deadly handgun, he pushed a valiant mop.
His job: to keep the school clean and act just like a cop.
He washed down the halls and he opened stuck doors, the man was a whiz with his broom.
But he never figured out that Glock, so he’s in the emergency room.
Never could have seen that one coming…
Wayne “The Peter” LaPierre couldn’t give a damn about public safety. His job is to sell guns.
Spot on! Cracked just had a short article mentioning this exact same thing, featuring the Wrist-Fucker 4000 (“What are you, a pussy?”) as the latest and greatest sidearm to use.
(Actually, I’ve used a pistol that comes close. Smith & Wesson makes a five shot, .50 caliber revolver which, if you’re not careful, will break your nose: you can end up punching yourself in the face from the recoil. For safety’s sake, you brace your wrist with your non-trigger hand and lean into it.)
