The revolt has begun. Yesterday a petition with 2.3 million signatures opposing the Obama Budget’s cuts to social insurance programs was dropped off at the White House. It seems the Democratic Party Civil War is just getting started as Obama’s allies in the party are caught flat footed in the first round. The hope of winning Republicans seems largely fruitless so far, though Lindsey Graham seems aroused.

To recap: the public overwhelming opposes these cuts. Social Security is safe for at least 20 years, and now the grassroots and strongest coalition members of the Democratic Party have come out against these cuts. Also, you know, austerity doesn’t work. Bad ideas and bad policies. Yet Obama is continuing to support the plutocrats’ agenda. Who is this guy? Does he know?
