Firedoglake has learned that the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) will be holding a conference call with the White House tomorrow at noon (D.C. time) regarding Syria. The call is at the White House’s request.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus will have a discussion among members today at 4 pm EST on Syria, with tomorrow’s conference call focusing on the White House’s views and agenda regarding the forthcoming vote for authorizing military force in Syria. Many members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus have already voiced doubt if not outright opposition to war with Syria – such as Rep. Alan Grayson and Rep. Xavier Becerra. Tomorrow’s call is likely targeted at CPC members yet to make up their minds regarding military action.
President Obama has already been told by a member of his own party that language would have to be reworked to pass the Senate. Tomorrow’s conference call may offer more insight into what language is or is not acceptable to CPC members or whether there will be broad opposition to starting a war with Syria.
Those interested in letting the CPC know their thoughts and views should contact the co-chairs Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva and Rep. Keith Ellison. It seems this is the optimal time to engage on the issue as a vote may be imminent with Congress fully returning on September 9th.
