It is not looking good in Congress for the authorization of military force on Syria. The FDL whip count tells the tale as Republicans and Democrats – who seemed to be unable to agree on anything – come together in opposition to unilateral war with Syria. The public is equally if not more skeptical as even Michelle Obama opposes the resolution apparently.
Over just the past week, the share of Americans who oppose U.S. airstrikes in Syria surged 15 points, from 48% to 63%, as many who were undecided about the issue have turned against military action. By contrast, the share of Americans who support airstrikes remains virtually unchanged: Just 28% favor U.S. military airstrikes against Syria in response to reports that its government used chemical weapons.
But the struggle is far from over even as a deal is being floated by Russia and Syria. Stopping the war machine from lurching forward is far from assured, which is why the Brave New Foundation has posted a video urging those citizens who haven’t raised their voice yet to engage with their representative on the Syrian War resolution.
The video advises people to contact their House representative and/or Senator by calling the switchboard at 1-888-981-7872.
