Ferguson, Missouri is still in chaos as protests ran through a Sunday night curfew. Police officers were recorded threatening to mace one reporter and shoot another. Tear gas was fired on demonstrators as Missouri Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency and has now activated the Missouri National Guard.
Adding fuel to the fire was a report showing that slain teen Michael Brown was at shot at least six times despite not being armed and allegedly putting his hands up to surrender. Despite being taller than the police officer that killed him Brown was shot in the head at least twice including one shot where he was bent forward.
One of the bullets entered the top of Mr. Brown’s skull, suggesting his head was bent forward when it struck him and caused a fatal injury, according to Dr. Michael M. Baden, the former chief medical examiner for the City of New York, who flew to Missouri on Sunday at the family’s request to conduct the separate autopsy. It was likely the last of bullets to hit him, he said…
“This one here looks like his head was bent downward,” he said, indicating the wound at the very top of Mr. Brown’s head. “It can be because he’s giving up, or because he’s charging forward at the officer.”
Witnesses claim Brown was giving up and put his hands in the air which, given he was unarmed, seems more likely than charging the officer though it his hard to know for sure thanks to the Ferguson police whom were given dashboard cameras but never installed them. Wonder why.
As things stand now there is no end in sight to the conflict in Ferguson as underlying tensions surrounding racial discrimination and a militarized police force have surfaced and show no signs of dissipating.
