Democratic Leadership Vote To Continue Spying On Americans

By: Thursday July 25, 2013 6:08 am

In a close vote yesterday in the House, 205-2017,  a bill to stop NSA spying on Americans and roll back the Patriot Act was defeated. Part of the reason for the defeat was the House Democratic Leadership who voted for continued spying on American citizens, even though many made public statements condemning the Patriot Act. [...]

Iowa CCI Went After Wasserman Schultz, Too

By: Monday August 15, 2011 7:35 am

Democratic-allied groups are sure getting a lot of mileage out of Mitt Romney’s comment that corporations are people. Because it’s a template that can be applied to any Republican, there’s sure to be a “corporations are people” attack ad in the general election even if Romney isn’t the nominee. Every Republican who has been asked [...]

By: Tuesday June 21, 2011 10:54 am

One of the stimulus ideas that Matt Stoller puts forward in his op-ed for Politico today is to turn Fannie and Freddie loose: One, the solution most cited now, is to use the government’s control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to spark a refinancing boom, adding dramatically to consumer purchasing power. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi were in the room when Gabrielle Giffords opened her eyes last night, less than a week after the tragic shooting that killed six and gravely wounded her. In the background of the commentary of this event, there has been this improbable success [...]

Who Are the FinReg Villains?

By: Friday June 18, 2010 1:51 pm

Reformers have won some victories – all hedge funds and private equity firms will have to register with the SEC, credit rating agencies will be on the hook for standard liability for negligence, the Fed audit is [...]

By: Monday November 9, 2009 9:47 am

A letter from Rep. Diana DeGette to Nancy Pelosi will vow to vote against any health care bill that includes the anti-choice Stupak amendment. I guess that’s a “going forward” letter, since DeGette and everyone likely to sign it have already voted for a bill with Stupak’s language in it. It’s considerably harder to make [...]
