Obama’s Deficit Plan is a Plan for Re-Election, Not the Opening Position for a Negotiation

By: Monday September 19, 2011 11:09 am

The White House has signaled with its deficit reduction and job creation plan, smashed together in one report to the Super Committee, that it is  not interested in continuing negotiations behind closed doors with the GOP aimed at a grand bargain. They may still want that grand bargain, as they have wanted it for two-plus [...]

Obama Deficit Plan Won’t Include Social Security Changes, Reports Say

By: Thursday September 15, 2011 6:21 am

Both the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal report that President Obama’s proposal for deficit reduction, due out Monday, will not include any changes to Social Security. The reports are less certain about increasing the Medicare eligibility age, giving a definite “maybe” about that measure. Here’s a sample of the WaPo report: People close [...]

A Wipeout of Democrats in Two Congressional Special Elections

By: Wednesday September 14, 2011 6:16 am

Bob Turner scored an upset victory over David Weprin in the special election to replace Anthony Weiner in NY-09 last night. Heading into the final days of the special election for New York’s 9th Congressional District seat, Republican Robert Turner has taken [...]

Democrats Panic, Dump Hundreds of Thousands into NY-09 Race

By: Thursday September 8, 2011 1:32 pm

Incredibly, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a half-million dollar ad buy into New York City with one weekend to go until a special House election in NY-09, the seat once held by Anthony Weiner. That half a million dollars would have come in very handy next year, when Democrats make a push to take back the House, no? Instead, it’s being chewed up in the expensive New York City media market to protect a bad candidate whose district will probably get chopped up in redistricting anyway.

By: Tuesday August 23, 2011 11:34 am

There are two House special elections on September 13, filling two of the three current vacancies in Congress. The third, in OR-01 to replace David Wu, won’t be filled until January 31, 2012. Because it’s a short ride off the Acela for DC types and right in the New York media backyard, attention has focused [...]
